RF MODULAR PRE AMPLIFIERS

GENERAL

Data Acquisition Pty Limited manufactures two separate types of RF Modular Pre Amplifiers.
The first type of Pre Amplifier is designed to direct mount into into an equipment Rear Panel using four M3 screws to tapped holes in the panel.

The second type of Pre Amplifier is a 'Plug-In' unit that mounts into a Rear Panel mounted sub chassis.
The sub chassis fits into a 2U Rear Panel, and mounts eight Pre Amplifiers.

Optional Pre Selector Filters are available for these Pre Amplifiers, and are recommended in order to provide excellent channel definition and out of band rejection.

BANDWIDTHS - HF VHF UHF WIDEBAND

Both types of Pre Amplifiers are available in three Bandwidth options:-

HF BAND
HF Band Pre Amplifiers cover the standard HF spectrum from 3 MHz (nominal) to 30 MHz (nominal).
Note that the specified bandwidth is nominal only, and can be tailored to meet Customer requirements.
Optional high performance LC Filtering (5th or 7th order Elliptic) is available to provide prescise bandwidth definition and out of band rejection.

LOWBAND    (VHF    UHF)
Lowband is a generic term used to describe any Pre Amplifier operating in the spectrum between HF and about 600 MHz upper limit.
This variant can be manufactured to suit any VHF or UHF (Customer specified) bandwidth.
Optional filtering is generally included to provide bandwidth definition and out of band rejection.

WIDEBAND
Wideband is a generic term used to describe any Pre Amplifier operating to an upper limit of about 3.3 GHz.
The Wideband variant can be manufactured to suit any Customer specified bandwidth to a 3.3 GHz upper limit.
This Pre Amplifier can also be supplied in Wideband format, providing continuous spectrum coverage from 100 KHz to 3.3 GHz.
Optional filtering is generally included to provide bandwidth definition and out of band rejection.

DIRECT MOUNTING MODULAR PRE AMPLIFIERS

GENERAL

The Direct Mounting Modular Pre Amplifier is shown below.
The Unit is available in several standard versions including HF, VHF, UHF and Wideband, or can be custom designed to meet individual Customer specified Bandwidths.
Standard Pre Selector Filters are normally included.   Alternatively, these Filters can be designed to Customer specification.
Filter designs available include 5th, 7th and 9th order Elliptic High Pass (HP),   Low Pass (LP),   or Bandpass (BP)  realisations.

The RF Output connector is an MMCX (female), mounted on the rear of the Pre Amplifier.   Typical cables are RG178 or RG316.
The Power and Control connector is a (2 x 4) 0.1inch Header mounted on the right rear (top side) of the unit.
Input Connectors can be   N   TNC   or   BNC      (No cost Customer option).

A typical VHF Pre Amplifier response plot is shown below.
This unit covers the Aviation VHF band, and is achieved using separate 5th order Elliptic HP and LP Filters placed prior to the Amplifier.
Note that the Filter skirt steepness Factor achieved with this design is 1.39, which would be considered somewhat minimal.   In comparison, a 7th order design with the same order of out of band attenuation (about 41db in this case), would provide a much improved steepness factor.

PLUG IN MODULAR PRE AMPLIFIER SYSTEM

GENERAL

The Plug In Modular Pre Amplifier system is shown below.
            *      The left view shows 8 Pre Amplifiers installed into a Sub Chassis mounted into a 2U Rear Panel   (connector dust caps fitted).
            *      The right view shows the Sub Chassis that fits internally into the Parent Equipment.    (Depth is 100mm inc Backplane PCB).
            *      Note that DC (Power) and Control connections only are Plug-In.    The RF Output connection is via a separate rear mounted                     MMCX coaxial connector, and must be manually engaged.   Cable types include RG178 and RG316.
            *      Auxiliary PCB Assemblies can be mounted on either side (or both sides) of the (internally mounted) Sub Chassis if required.
